What is International Night?
ISA’s annual International Night is designed to facilitate understanding and appreciation of the cultural diversity at UH and in Hawai’i. The event will consist of live performances and culture booths from a variety of cultures. More pictures of International Night can be found here.
When and where is the event?
This event is held every year in mid-March. This semester’s is on Saturday, March 15th, 2014 from 5:30-9:00 pm at the Campus Center Ball Room.
What is this year’s theme?
This year’s theme is “A Voyage Through Paradise.” For the past 14 years, ISA has contributed to the efforts of uniting cultures and promoting understanding of cultural diversity at UHM. Experiencing another culture is not limited to a physical voyage, but can also be one of the mind and spirit. Living in such a paradise as Hawai’i, we are blessed to have such opportunities right at our fingertips.
Cultures represented include : Brazil, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Croatia, France, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Liberia, Malaysia, Napal, Okinawa, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, USA, and Zimbabwe.
How big is this event?
Every year the number of people we attract is growing, and last year we attracted over 700 people.
How do I apply to be a performer or have a booth at the event?
Please click here to download the application. If using a PDF reader to fill in the form to send by email, we recommend using Adobe Reader, especially for OSX users. The software can be downloaded here. Alternatively, the application can be printed out and dropped off at the ISS office. You may also turn it in to our programming committee co-chairs Tess Hills and Joyce Chou or cultural booth committee chairs Kristen Teramae and Jennifer Yahata during the orientation session.
When is the deadline to apply?
The deadline is Monday, February 3, 2014 at 3:30pm. Submit to the International Student Services office (QLC 206) or through email at email@example.com
When is Orientation session?
The International Night Orientation will be on Wednesday, February 5th at 5 – 6pm at Kuykendall 301 (subject to change). The orientation is to obtain detailed information about the event and we will also have signups for the audition. If you haven’t applied by the deadline but interested, please come to the orientation and you may turn in an application there. All interested participants and applicants are required to attend.
When are the Auditions?
Mandatory auditions will be held on: February 10, 11, 12, 14th, Hemenway Hall 204 (5-9pm) and February 13th, Hemenway Hall 201 (5-9pm).
